Process Engineer, Wood Beca, New Zealand

Shiraz is an experienced process engineer and she started her career in pulp and paper industry as a summer student engineer at Kinleith mill and then as a graduate engineer at Tasman mill. Shiraz holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree with Honours from the University of Canterbury where she is also a Golden Key Chapter member.

Shiraz has been an APPITA member since 2012. She joined the APPITA YPN Committee in 2020 and APPITA NZ Section Committee in 2022. Shiraz is the current Secretary for the APPITA YPN Committee and the NZ Section Chairperson.

She is currently employed by Wood Beca with experience in numerous industries. Having industrial operation experience has given her versatile consulting skills. From design to commissioning, she enjoys problem-solving and gains satisfaction every time she solves any issue.

“I always have interest for pulp and paper given that it’s the first industry that I started of my career. Since 2022, I’ve been getting more involved in Wood & Fibre segment within Wood Beca. I’m the Job Manager for Essity PM3 Rebuild and from late last year, I took over the job management for the Capital and NRM Programme at Oji FSK. I’d like to be able to stay in the current with the industry so I can relate with my clients better. In addition, I’m the current Chairperson for the NZ section and I feel like I hold some responsibility to represent NZ and to deliver Appita’s vision and message to the NZ committee members .”
